I’ve been presented with a few questions lately regarding traffic levels on websites, along
with product trending. If you’re new to E-commerce and online marketing then you’ll soon
understand how important it is to have a “strategic” marketing plan. Think of it this way, what
if you could forecast your marketing efforts for months to come, save money, and have a
better control on product advertising? With just a few clicks of the mouse, you can achieve all this.
Once again, Google has come to our rescue and developed a product that allows you to gain insight into
product trending and search volume at an extremely detailed level.Through the Insights for Search tool, you can easily compare search volume across specific states, regions, cities, and categories based on set time frames. As a new or existing E-commerce store owner you may know how hard it is to pinpoint the exact month or week to switch focus and develop a new marketing plan for your products. After all, it’s time to start saving money and putting more profit back in your wallets - and Google’s here to help!
There are numerous ways to implement this information. For beginners, check out the trending of your search terms. The default setting will always start at the year 2004 until the present, and if you have an understanding of data, you know the more you have, the more credible it is. Depending on which products your searching for you may notice the graph being evenly mapped, or you may see huge dips throughout each year. If your graph is mapped evenly, then the products have a steady search volume and your best strategy may be to focus on advertising them throughout the entire year.
However, when you see spikes in traffic volume, it’s time to have some fun with marketing. The spikes are
a good indication of seasonality. Take a look at Inights for Search and type in the term “golf club.” The search term triggers a graph that is populated with a heavy emphasis on the months of March through April, so instead of flowing into earlier months or later months for advertising, now you can cut expenses with more confidence.
If you want to further your Marketing efforts then take a look at the map just below the graph. As you notice there will be states with a darker shade, these are specific areas where search volume is unusually strong. You can even further your analysis by clicking the state. This will allow insight into which cities are the most popular for your products. After choosing which state and cities are well suited as a test market, perhaps it’s time for a thorough geo-targeted campaign that emphasizes city-oriented value incentives.
Ultimately, it’s time to see what the world is searching for!
